PsP Heat Of The Souls 2:
Okay so far we've seen what good games on the psp so far. Good not great just generally average orginal games or ports of ps2 games that have lost their shine on the home console and are trying to make a living on the psp. So what does one do to find truely unique and wonderful games? My friends its time to look across the sea and over to our wonderful friends in Japan. Let this be said that this is one of the more user friendly imports due to most of the menus are in english already, and on the character vs character screen before each match will show you the name of your fighter in english. However there are still some japanese menus that will take some time on figuring out what they do and how they work. How ever this doesnt take long because all they are are the Gotei 13 mode, Options, and shop menus.

Heat the soul 2 has come from Japan and is probably one of the best games I've ever had the pleasure of reviewing for the psp so far even though it is my second one. The game was designed and produced by Sony. The game is based off the hit manga and anime from creator Tite Kubo. The story tells of Ichigo Kurosaki a boy who can see ghosts. One day a Hollow or a soul eating evil spirit comes after him trying to devour his soul because he radiates lot of spirit power. A soul reaper named Rukia appears and attempts to defeat him. After she becomes injuried in the fight she transfers her powers to Ichigo so he can continue the fight to protect both himself and his family. Though only intending to give him half of her power Ichigo's body takes it all so now Ichigo and Rukia team up to defeat the Hollows. Thats about the main plot of the story the game goes a little deeper introducing new characters that you'll read about if you get the manga.

Story 5/5
Okay this game does have a story mode and even though you get a total of 6 people to play though you get a fairly good varity. Ichigo's story revolves around rescuing Rukia from the Soul Society before her execution and settling a score from his previous fight with both Renji and Byakua. Renji's story is also about rescuing Rukia for his own reasons while trying to get Byakuya to prove that he can be stronger than him. Byakuya's story why he is one of the strongest there is of the Gotei 13 and stopping Ichigo and his friends from his own sisters execution. Kisuke Uhurara is helping Ichigo and crew by training Ichigo to achieve his sword's second form and how to handle both himself and the others while they are in the Soul Society. Gin Ichimaru which kinda has the face of a snake in my opinion is out for his own agenda which of course only Gin himself knows. Toushiro Hitsugaya story has him out to stop Gin since he suspects him to be behind the assasination of the 5th divison Captian Sosuke Aizen.

Graphics 5/5
This is one of the best parts about the entire game. Never have I seen a psp game look more spectacular than this in its short life. This honestly looks like it should be on a game cube or a ps2 rather than psp. The game is drawn to to the exact fashion of Kubo's manga art style. Each charcater is totally cell-shaded to give it that anime feel to the game which it does prefectly. The attacks look great some of them have this really beautiful blur and fade effect that I've never seen until now and it looks just gorgeous. The supers alone so good looking that you'll just want to pull them off over and over to make sure you see ever bit of it. The two best so far is Byakuya's Steel petal were his katana just shatters and scatters into steel petals and shread the opponents for 12 hits and Toushiro's Water dragon looks smooth and just fills the screen till the move is over and you'll just be total awe in how great it looks not mattering if it hits or not.

Sound 5/5
On to the sound once again this is something that is great. You get a nice little music video with scenes from the anime and catchy little tune called Chance! by UverWorld which is one the J-Rock bands in Japan. The menu screens give you a good dose of old japanesetraditional music. The level music goes anywhere from rock to jazz to tradition and it rotates out enough that you dont seem to hear the same music too many times. The voice acting is done by all the shows actors though naturally seeing as how this is an import is japanese dialog only and you wont be able to understand them unless your japanese and raised with the langauge in your house, Or you lived there a good portion of your life.

Controls 5/5
The controls are extremely simple so its pretty much pick up and play. You move back and forth with and in and out of the stage since this is a 3-d fighter with either the control pad or analog stick. The face buttons are once again your attack buttons. Square is your soul energy when you press it twice you'll radiate a circle of spirit pressure and stun the opponent for a second or two. When you low on health and your bar is flashing you can press square then triangle and you'll active spirit fire mode where you can no longer defend but you have double to triple depending on the character's attack power and your supers are unblockable. Square and pressing either x or circle after it will active your super move. The x button is your standard attack button pressing directions with x will alter your attack and rapid presses will chain your attacks into a combo. Circle is your blade attack and once again it will alter if you press the directional buttons and chaining presses of circle and x will do more combos. Finally the Triangle button just lets you jump if you press it again you'll air dash in the direction your facing.

Gameplay 5/5
The fun just doesnt want to stop for this game either. Youve got a good bit of modes to choose from in the game. In every mode expect story mode you'll be given more characters 3 additional characters to play with in these modes and two hidden ones you have to unlock through a lot of playing and I do mean a lot. First you have Vs soul which lets you play opponents from over the internet using the lan though once again since this is an import good luck getting any challangers. Next comes Vs Com which is your standard run of the middle fighting game beat x number of guys till you fight the end of the boss which in the game is Byukuya or if your really good or lucky like in my case and play through with out losing you'll fight a hidden character in the game. Next comes story mode where you can pick 6 people and play through their stories. Then you got your traditional fighting game staples of Survival and Time attack. There is a shop mode where you can by cards which unlocks things in the game through a points system that your rewarded after playing any mode in the game. There is also a small mini-game called Kon's Blockon which is like breakout game that you can unlock. Then comes if not these most challanging part of the game called Gotei 13 where you pick one of the thirteen of 15 squads of the shinengami and you fight a grueling 50+ battles raising through the ranks till you achieve captain of that squad as you progress in the game you'll get bonuses to your attack, speed, and defense once again depending on the person your fighting this gauntlet with. These bonuses activate if whooping up on your opponent and get better as you rise in the ranks.

Over all 5/5!
Okay this will be the first perfect score I give any game thus far in my career and it is well deserved. I would recommend this for everyone espically if your either an anime fan it doesnt matter if your new to bleach or or been a fan from the get go. Even if your not a fan of bleach but, your a fan of fighting games this is something you must pick up it'll be better than any of the fighters released here in the us for quite some time. Keep in mind however this is an import so you will have to pay a bit to play it and it is in japanese but the menus are in english with the expection of Options, Shop, and Gotei 13 mode. Although none of that really matters this game is just flawless in my opinion the beautiful characters, the large levels and the beautiful often screen filling attacks will keep you coming back for more and will want you to bug sony to hurry up for Heat the Soul 3 so if you got the cash find a site and hurry up and get it.
