Gameplay – 6
The gameplay, well it is a beat em-up so, as you would have though, you walk and must attack every hollow on your way. There is no revolution at all in the system and I would even say that it is a little messed up. You can just do an ordinary attack, one special attack and one team attack with your partner. There are not so much of combinations of style I would say. The worst of this is that you can’t even jump! Well it is not the end of time but it could have been better.
The interesting part is the partner system. Before starting a mission, you must choose your main character and a partner between Ichigo, Ishida, Rukia, Inoue and Sado. While playing, you can tag with your partner to control him and beat hollow with him. There is also the combo system which you started a combo by doing a combination of button and during the combo you switch for the partner which is great.
The missions are just normal and have no link at all with the story. You start somewhere and must beat all the hollow. By the way, the only enemies in this game are hollows and nothing else, a little repetitive. Sometimes, missions are boss battle and you must fight a captain or a known character from the bleach series. There is no challenge at all and every boss battle are almost the same. In the game, there is no Shikai or even Bankai so every shinigami have the same little katana.
Well the game can get a little boring after a while even if you are a huge bleach fan.
Graphics – 8
Graphics in this game are cel-shaded so they are great just like the anime. The introduction video is really great with the music D-Tecnolife but does contain lot of spoiler like Ichigo’s Bankai or Urahara’s secret tech. The animation is well done and gameplay graphics are normal there is nothing to complain about.
Sounds & Music – 6
Well for music I give it a five because there is no music from the anime if we don’t count D-Tecnolife from the introduction. Music can get pretty boring during gameplay and is less interesting due to the fact that it doesn’t come from the anime. There are no voices at all during gameplay, there is some just before the first stage and it is all so it is not great. Sounds are normal so it’s ok.
Replay – 7
Strangely, replay is interesting in this game. You can get a lot of new playable character during the game, you can try to get all the loading screen, you can try to get every special events (like if Rukia is in your team when you fight Renji), and get new mode like the hard mode and maximum mode. If you really like the game and want everything, there is a lot of replay value.
Overall – 6.5
Surely, all bleach fans will like to try this game but I would say that this is not the best game ever. You play few hours and after that you are tired of playing the game. It is not worth buying but if you friend have it, borrow it, it is worth the try. Try it if you are interested but wait for some other bleach game if you want to play a game based on the anime.
Cheats Maximum Mode Complete the game once. After hold L2 and R2 while selecting “Load Game”. The result will be that the combination gauge will be full at the start all missions.
Hard Mode Complete the game once. After hold L1 and R1 while selecting “Load Game”. The result will be that the enemies will do two times more damage.
